On March 8, 2013, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (the “USCIS”) published its long-awaited, revised and updated Form I-9 for Employment Eligibility Verification.
The new form has some new features, including:
- Separate pages for employer data and employee data;
- Expanded instructions for both employers and employees about the form; and
- More data to be provided by employer and employee (such as information about the employee’s foreign passport).
The relevant USCIS Web page states that employers may begin using the new form for all new hires and re-verifications, but states that employers are not required to do so until May 7, 2013.
The revised forms can be viewed online at the USCIS Website, and USCIS representatives are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST to answer questions about the forms at (888) 464-4218.
To order pre-printed forms, you can call the USCIS at (800) 870-3676.
Now you can also follow the USCIS for announcements about changes in laws and regulations via Facebook, Twitter (@uscis) and the USCIS blog, the Beacon.
