Many Qualified for “Deferred Action” Still Afraid of Stepping Forward

Written By The Shapiro Law Group on January 25, 2013

Contrary to popular belief, the Obama administration has not been “soft” on illegal immigration. In fact, last year the administration deported more than 400,000 illegal immigrants, according to published reports. That number is the greatest number on record in the nation’s history, and it is roughly 3/4 the number that the Bush administration deported in eight years.

The number also includes more than 90,000 individuals who are parents of American-born children.

In light of this reality, it is hard to understand why only an estimated 355,000 immigrants have stepped forward to claim their right to “deferred action” status, despite the fact that an estimated 1.7 million should qualify, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

This means that there are still more than 1.3 million undocumented immigrants who are living in the shadows of fear unnecessarily.

If you think you might qualify for “deferred action” status, or even if you are unsure whether you qualify, please do not hesitate to contact our office at (847)564-0712 for a completely confidential and discrete consultation with an experienced and qualified immigration lawyer who can help you.
