The U.S. State Department has recently acknowledged that 44 percent more U.S. visas have been issued in Brazil this year than last year, and 35 percent more have been granted in China.
U.S. consular staff in Brazil is expected to double next year and a growing number of temporary workers have been added to reduce the backlog in processing of applications. Currently, applicants must wait for up to 4 months for an appointment in Brazil.
There will be more consular positions added in China as well next year as a surge in Chinese student visa applications continues. The Chinese now compose the largest single group of students in the U.S. coming from any one foreign country.
