A New Look for the Green Card

Written By The Shapiro Law Group on August 06, 2010

You might have noticed in the last few months that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) has started issuing green cards (also known as “permanent residence cards”) with a new look to them.

The card uses state-of-the-art technology for enhanced security, including:

  • holographic depictions that can’t be copied;
  • laser engraved fingerprints;
  • embedded data that can be read by scanners; and
  • a return address on the back of each card for returning lost cards.

There is also now a radio frequency identification device on each card so that inspectors can scan the card and send back information to a file on the card holder.

For more information about the new green card, check out the USCIS page on modern green card design.
